Sympathetic Dutch celebrate victory in Escazú

first_imgFans of the Netherlands national team wave flags by the side of the highway in Escazú, west of San José. More than 100 people showed up at Jazz Café on Saturday to watch the Netherlands-Costa Rica match, and dozens of fans wore jerseys that mixed both teams’ patterns. The club was sultry with body heat and unbearably tense. Said one Dutch fan as he left the men’s room at halftime: “It’s the best game yet of the World Cup. Just incredible.” It was definitely a nail-biter: the Netherlands beat La Sele 4-3 in the final penalty shootout.
