Nobody can dictate to me, Rohr declares

first_img Loading… Nigeria coach, Gernot Rohr, has stated he has a free hand to select his players, insisting nobody can dictate to him on who to pick for national duty. “Each Monday we have our meetings and we speak about the games played at the weekend and what our players did. We have to take the best ones no matter where they are coming from.” Rohr has been in charge of the Super Eagles since 2016 and qualified the West Africans to the 2018 World Cup in Russia with ease. The former Bordeaux manager guided the three-time African champions to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Nigeria currently leads the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers Group L with six points after back-to-back victories against the Republic of Benin and Lesotho. read also:Perform or get fired, NFF warns Rohr Before the outbreak of the coronavirus, Rohr handed an invitation to 23 players for the Super Eagles’ Afcon qualifying game against Sierra Leone which was scheduled for March before it was postponed. Rohr has been mandated to qualify Nigeria for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and win the 2021 continental title in Cameroon. In March, Nosa Igiebor claimed he was shut out of the Super Eagles because he was not playing in a top league while the Franco-German tactician has also been accused of not introducing more Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) players into the national team. Rohr, however, revealed he selects players in consultation with his assistants which is strictly based on merit, explaining the best will always have a chance for the Super Eagles. “It is not a part of my contract to take players who are not so good. I can choose my players myself. It is the most important [thing]. So, nobody can tell me ‘You have to pick this one or that one,” Rohr told Channels TV. “I can take the best players and I don’t do it alone. We have a team and our staff. I have my assistant, I have my analyzer.Advertisementlast_img read more

VAR denies Brazil as Venezuela battle to draw

first_img0Shares0000Brazil’s Philippe Coutinho celebrates before his goal against Venezuela is disallowed after a VAR ruling © AFP / Juan MABROMATASALVADOR, Brazil, Jun 19 – Brazil were held to a 0-0 draw against Venezuela in the Copa America on Tuesday after a dramatic finale which saw a late Philippe Coutinho strike ruled out by VAR.Coutinho thought he had fired Brazil into the quarter-finals in the 87th minute when he bundled home a finish from Everton Soares’ driving run down the left wing at Salvador’s Arena Fonte Nova. But for the second time in the match, Chilean referee Julio Bascunan ruled out a Brazilian goal after being alerted to an infringement by the video assistant referee. The goal appeared to have been disallowed due to a touch by Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, although it was not clear that Firmino had been offside as the ball grazed him on the way into the net.Brazil left the field to boos but remain top of Group A with four points from two games, and one game to play.Venezuela have two points from two games and will fancy their chances of advancing with their final game coming against Bolivia, who suffered their second straight defeat earlier Tuesday in a 3-1 loss to Peru.Brazil coach Tite meanwhile had no issues with the two VAR-assisted decisions that ruled out his side’s goals.“They made the right call with both goals,” Tite said. “VAR was correct. I have absolutely nothing to demand — we got justice,” he added.Venezuela coach Rafael Dudamel meanwhile praised an “almost perfect” performance from his team.“Today is very important, but this result will mean nothing if we don’t qualify from the group,” Dudamel said.Brazil, who had made hard work of beating Bolivia in their opener, once again struggled to find a creative spark against well-organized opponents.“We did not have the creativity we were looking for,” he said. “The team was a bit anxious in that respect. We have to improve — we rushed our finishing and we didn’t give their goalkeeper much to do.”Firmino was kept quiet by Venezuela’s defense with Yordan Osorio and Mikel Villanueva neutralizing the Liverpool striker. The tale of the first half lay in the statistics from the opening 45 minutes, with Brazil recording only one shot on target despite enjoying 75 percent possession. In fact, the best chance of the half fell to Venezuela, when Salomon Rondon headed Yangel Herrera’s cross just inches wide with Alisson beaten.– Firmino denied –Firmino did get the ball in the Venezuela net in the 38th minute but the goal was disallowed after Bascunan ruled Villanueva had been fouled in the build-up.Brazil left the field to loud boos and whistling, and manager Tite wasted no time in making a change at half-time, bringing on Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus for Richarlison.Jesus made an instant impact looking lively down the left flank and curling a shot just wide of the post on 57 minutes.Moments later Jesus looked to have fired Brazil into the lead.Once again the striker advanced menacingly on the Venezuela penalty area and unleashed a fierce low shot. The ball deflected off Villanueva into the path of Firmino, who then squared for Jesus who continued his run.The striker took a touch and buried his finish as the home fans erupted. But the festive atmosphere fell flat as the goal was referred to VAR, who promptly chalked the score off after ruling Firmino had been offside when he collected the ricochet.A deflated Brazil took several minutes to regroup but grew increasingly desperate as valuable minutes ticked away and Venezuela held firm.Jesus went close again in the 76th minute when Dani Alves whipped a cross into the six-yard box.But again Venezuela’s defense was rock-solid, with Jesus bundled off the ball and unable to get a shot away.Coutinho looked to have broken the deadlock three minutes from time, but VAR’s intervention rescued a precious point for Venezuela.Fernandinho almost snatched victory with a header in the 10th minute of time added on, but his effort rolled just wide of the post.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

Do the Size of Mobile App Stores Still Matter?

first_imgThe Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technology frederic lardinois Related Posts Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech …center_img According to Mplayit CEO Michael Powers, the size of a mobile platform’s app store is now mostly irrelevant. Facebook-based mobile app store Mplayit took a close look at the most popular apps for Android, BlackBerry and the iPhone and found that the most popular apps on all three platforms tend to be very similar. As the popular app stores continue to grow, users on all the major platforms also drift towards the same known brands and hits like EverNote and Pandora. Mplayit also found that one of the fastest growing app categories across all the major platforms are barcode scanners. Apps like ShopSavvy and RedLaser have clearly hit upon an unfulfilled need. Size Doesn’t MatterAccording to Powers, asking how many apps exist for a given platform is now a moot question. All the major platforms now offer more than enough apps and as long as people can find the apps they are looking for – and as long as these apps are good – most consumers will be happy. Most users simply don’t need 50 different apps to write their grocery lists.Looking at Mplayit’s list of the most popular apps across the top platforms, it also becomes clear that quite a few of these categories are being dominated by known brands like Shazam, Pandora, Evernote and Facebook. Mplayit, of course, is in the business of giving app recommendations across platforms and doesn’t fail to note that it’s own store is a good alternative for finding apps outside of the standard top 20 charts. Or Does It?To some degree, Powers’ comments about the size of today’s app stores rings true. Maybe it really doesn’t matter that the Android store only features about 20,000 apps and that the Apple App Store now holds more than 100,000. Maybe it is true that consumers tend to gravitate towards the same brands on all platforms. At the same time, though, having more apps in the store also means that there is a more active developer ecosystem around a given platform. While iPhone developers rightly gripe about Apple’s approval process, we’ve seen a lot more innovative apps for the iPhone than for Android. Is the size of the Android market holding you back from making the switch? Do you think Android has enough good apps that make up for the smaller app store? Do you think the quality of today’s BlackBerry apps is good enough? Feel free to let us know in the comments. Setting Expectations and Coaching your team

first_imgMake it Clear that There Are No Dumb Questions.Don’t assume that your staff and trades will immediately understand everything you are asking for when making the changes that green building will require. Most people are agreeable and want to please their superiors, so you will often hear “yes” when you ask if they understand, but this does not always mean that they do, in fact, understand you. Make it clear that it is not only OK to ask for more details and explanations, but it is important that they ask questions until they know exactly what you want, and they should continue to ask questions through the job as needed.People worry that they might sound stupid if they ask questions, often because they have been treated that way in the past by other employers. Be a positive influence on them—encourage them to question you. Listen carefully to what they are saying, compliment them for taking the time to bring important issues to your attention, and get them what they need promptly. Make it clear that it is important to you that they take the time to get all the information to do the job correctly the first time, instead of doing it wrong because they were afraid to ask a question.Established an important two-part rule: 1) If I give you an assignment and you tell me you can do it, it is your responsibility. 2) If you tell me you have all you can handle and I give you something else, it is no longer your responsibility if you fail.It is important for every team member to say when they have enough on their plate. My favorite employees were the ones who knew their limits and told me when they could not take on anything else. The best ones would ask, “If I add this project to my list which one do you want to fail?”Watch out for team members who don’t know their limits, particularly when they are dealing with new techniques and materials involved in green building. I have looked employees in the eye and asked them specifically— “Can you handle your current workload?” to which they answer “yes,” only to fail miserably a few weeks later, complaining that I gave them too much work, or they didn’t understand what I wanted, and how could I expect them to do everything? We are all adults, and we need to act like it. If someone tells me that they can’t take on any more work and I give them an additional assignment, I have absolved them of the responsibility of failure, it is now on me. If they don’t tell me that they are too busy and willingly take on more, then it is their responsibility if they fail. Coach these people to learn when to say no, or send them on their way.You also need to take your share of the responsibility—be aware when you are overloading your team—they could be telling you that they have had enough but you may not be listening. Make sure you have not created an atmosphere where people are afraid to speak out.Being a good manager requires bi-directional communication skills in order to make your team and your projects successful.last_img read more

You Will Be Punished

first_imgYou don’t have to believe in gravity if you don’t want to, but it is law whether you believe in it or not.If you step off a tall structure, the law of gravity is not at all concerned with what you believe. It’s in full effect all the way down, however far that may be, and gravity will punish you for your disobedience. The laws of success are equally strict in their demand for obedience. You don’t have to have a positive, optimistic attitude and a strong belief in yourself if you don’t want to. But you will be punished for a negative, cynical attitude with a life that is poorer in every way for violating the law that allows only people who believe and behave in a certain way to attract success. You don’t have to follow the law that commands that you must first sow before you can reap. But you will be punished for your laziness, sloth, and procrastination with an absence of something that you could only have by paying for it in advance. If you are in sales, or if you are an entrepreneur, this law will break you. There is a law that requires that you are grateful for what you have. You might be jealous and wish you had something that someone else has now. You might be envious and wish that someone else would have what you want taken from them. But only people who are grateful receive abundance. Ingrates only perceive scarcity.Success isn’t only financial success. But financial success is one area where success can be measured, and it’s important. The law about financial success requires that you create value to obtain money. If you want more money, you create more value, or you create value for more people. The law punishes get-rich-quick schemes, and it punishes thieves and con artists, even if they seem successful for some period. If you feel like you are being punished, it isn’t life, the universe, or someone else who is punishing you. There are iron laws that demand your obedience if you want success.last_img read more
