‘Working fathers’ label will make parental leave popular

first_img Previous Article Next Article Large firms have had no more than a handful of requests from staff to take parental leave, according to the director of Worcestershire Council’s corporate services Helen Froud. She told delegates that anecdotal evidence suggested that because it was unpaid, the uptake had been low since the regulations came into force in December.“Parental leave is still not a mainstream issue for fathers or for low paid workers and will not be until, as the Industrial Society has said, the term working fathers comes into common parlance,” she said. But Froud warned that employers should plan ahead as, if a TUC challenge to the implementation date of December 1999 succeeds in the European courts, the regulations will allow an extra 7 million more employees to take parental leave in two years’ time.Cherie Booth QC, who chaired last year’s Employers’ Law briefing, is acting on behalf of the TUC and helped Froud prepare her speech to delegates.Froud said that Worcestershire, like the DTI and Remploy, is an employer which has exceeded the minimum standards and offered parental leave to all staff who have children aged under five, not just those that had a baby after December 1999. The regulations allow both parents to take up to 13 weeks’ unpaid leave up to their child’s fifth birthday.“Being a parent is a lifestyle choice, but it has an impact on society. Parental leave can give time to meet obligations of children and the obligations of employers while keeping them in the paid workplace. The Government has made it clear that parental leave is part of its social inclusion strategy,” said Froud. She urged HR managers to rehearse the questions within their team first. “You can give parental leave without asking questions or you will have to ask for documentary evidence and risk intruding into the private life of your staff.”Parental Leave: action listCheck managers are aware of itCheck recording systemsPlan for European court judgement due in 2002Amend recruitment literature to reflect corporate work/life stanceRehearse questions with HR first. Anthony Davis buys Bel Air mansion with b-ball court

first_imgAnthony Davis and Stratford Circle mansion, Los Angeles (Getty, Google Maps)Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis bought a recently renovated Bel Air mansion, complete with full-sized basketball court and Olympic-sized pool, The Real Deal has learned.Records did not reveal the price of the home, but sources told TRD he paid around $32 million. The off-market deal closed last month, with Davis securing a $20.1 million, 30-year mortgage for the home, according to property records. The buyer signed the deed using a trust that Davis had previously used to buy a mansion in Westlake Village in 2018, and Davis’ mother, Erainer Eberhardt Davis, was listed as a trustee. The villa-style mansion at 2100 Stratford Circle is 16,700 square feet, with eight bedrooms and eight full bathrooms on 3.5 acres, according to a listing. It also includes a 35-foot-high glass dome ceiling for the 6-foot-10-inch power forward/center. It is located within Bel Air Crest, an exclusive gated community in Bel Air.Davis, who helped lead the Lakers to a championship in October, inked a five-year, $190 million contract with the team in December. But the star player hasn’t been completely swimming in success. He sold his 16,000-square-foot mansion in Westlake Village in January for $6.6 million, well below the $7.5 million he paid for it in 2018.The new home in a gated community has an outdoor basketball court, a tennis court and the 120-foot pool.Records show the previous owner was entrepreneur and real estate developer Ted Foxman. He paid $16 million for the home in 2016, and hired L.A.-based interior designer Lonni Paul for the renovations. The work took two years, according to a 2020 article in Elle Decor.Davis isn’t the only Lakers star to make major real estate moves in L.A. Teammate and superstar LeBron James listed his Brentwood mansion for $20.5 million recently, after paying $36.75 million for a Beverly Hills estate in the fall, just before the team captured its title. SIS extends greyhound offering to replace shortfall in horse racing

first_imgShare StumbleUpon Spotlight delivers Racing Post translated services for Pari-Engineering Russia August 26, 2020 Share Racing content and data services provider Sports Information Services (SIS) has confirmed that it will be extending its current greyhound offering to ‘temporarily replace the British horse racing fixtures’.As part of the extension, effective from 23 March, SIS has committed to increasing the number of greyhound races in its schedule to 532 races per week, an increase of 54 races. On Tuesday the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) confirmed that it had temporarily suspended all UK racing events until the end of April, due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns.Paul Witten, Product Director at SIS, said: “Our revised channels schedule means that we can now provide our bookmaker customers with a live greyhound race every six minutes, compared to ten minutes previously. British and Irish greyhound racing remains open for business and our online and retail customers will appreciate the increase in race frequency.“SIS is putting this additional content into the market at zero profit, as part of our commitment to support our bookmaker customers in these difficult times.”The rescheduled service has been crafted to offer more racing at peak retail times, to optimise events in the 12pm-5pm slot from all of SIS’s British and Irish tracks.Earlier this week, SIS strengthened its presence in the Russian market after securing a new deal with Poolbet.ru.The new agreement will see SIS distribute its World Greyhound Tote Pool, allowing Poolbet.ru to accept and transfer bets into the pool of British greyhound racing content by integrating the end-to-end solution, which consists of live streamed pictures, commentary, data on-screen graphics and markets.
